Why does sampling happen?

Google Search Console anonymizes data for privacy reasons. When queries have very low search volume or are associated with sensitive topics, Google removes them from the query-level and page-level reports. This means the sum of clicks and impressions you see when breaking data down by query or page will often be less than the true totals reported at the date/property level.

The effect is more pronounced over longer time periods because more unique low-volume queries accumulate. Sites with many long-tail queries or niche topics tend to see higher sampling rates.

GSC Wizard quantifies this gap so you can understand how much of your true search performance is invisible in standard reports.
