Since May 2026 Google has its own MCP server for Merchant Center data. So why would anyone use mine? Sometimes they shouldn't, because Google's is the official, raw route into the Merchant API, with write access and no price tag. GSC Wizard's is a hosted connector that does the analysis before the assistant sees the numbers. This page sets out where each one is better, using Google's own documentation.
Checked against Google's pages on 16 October 2026. Google calls its server an experimental alpha, so expect it to change.
You are a developer who wants raw, official access to the Merchant API from a coding agent or the Claude CLI, you want an assistant to create and fetch data sources, or you would rather no third party sat between you and your Merchant Center account.
You want to ask Claude or ChatGPT about your shop without a Google Cloud project or access tokens, you want answers that arrive ranked and counted, or you want the feed audit and Search Console's merchant listings next to your Merchant Center data.
You build on the Merchant API and also report on it. An MCP client can load both servers at once: Google's for raw queries and data sources, GSC Wizard's for the analysis.
There are real reasons to pick the official server, and they come first.
Your assistant talks to merchantapi.googleapis.com directly, with your own credentials. With GSC Wizard, a third party holds a Google token for your Merchant Center account to make the calls for you. If that is a line you do not cross, the choice is made.
Google lists no price for it. What it costs is quota: its calls come out of the same pool as your other Merchant API calls, and Google warns that running agents can quickly exhaust it, especially data source fetches. GSC Wizard is a paid product after a 7-day trial.
Its 13 tools cover products, data sources, file uploads, accounts, account issues, programs and automatic improvements, and two of them create and fetch data sources. Google says more capabilities, especially write actions, are coming. GSC Wizard's tools are for analysis and never write to Merchant Center.
report_search runs a Merchant Center Query Language query over the reporting tables: product performance, product statuses, price insights, competitive visibility and more. A capable assistant can ask a question no fixed tool anticipated. GSC Wizard has one tool per job, so a question outside those jobs has no tool to go to.
Facts about Google's server come from its MCP Access Service guide and the Merchant API pages linked under Sources. Where Google's documentation does not mention something, the cell says "not listed". The last column says who has the edge on that row.
| Google's Merchant API MCP | GSC Wizard Merchant Center MCP | Edge | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who makes it | GSC Wizard, an independent tool | ||
| Status | Experimental alpha since May 2026. Google does not recommend it for sensitive systems with high reliability needs, and suggests trying it on a test account first | Generally available to every subscriber since 8 October 2026 | GSC Wizard |
| Price | No price listed. Calls share your Merchant API quota | Included in every plan, from €17 a month ($19), after a 7-day free trial | |
| What you set up | A Google Cloud project, Merchant API developer registration, an OAuth 2.0 access token or service account, and an X-Goog-User-Project header when you use user credentials | Connect Merchant Center in the app and pick the account. If Google asks, a Merchant Center admin clicks Register project once | GSC Wizard |
| Documented clients | Antigravity, the Claude CLI and cURL, with the token and project in headers | Claude and ChatGPT as a hosted connector with OAuth sign-in, Claude Code and other clients with an API key | GSC Wizard |
| Permission | The content scope | The same content scope; Google has no read-only one | Tie |
| Tools | 13: products, product statuses, reports, data sources, file uploads, accounts, account issues, programs, automatic improvements | 10 shopping tools, plus the Search Console, GA4, Bing and Yandex tools on the same connector | Depends |
| How reports are asked | The assistant writes a Merchant Center Query Language query for report_search | One tool per job, with plain arguments such as a country or a sort order | Depends |
| Product problems | Product statuses and issues, per product or aggregated | Ranked by Google's click potential, with the products that need your action counted apart from those waiting on Google | GSC Wizard |
| Writes to Merchant Center | Creates and fetches data sources; more write actions announced | None. The one write tool queues a feed audit inside GSC Wizard | Depends |
| Feed audit with a page crawl | Not listed | 21 checks on every product, including whether each product page shows the feed's price | GSC Wizard |
| Search Console merchant listings | Not listed: it reads Merchant Center only | Yes, beside the free listings, with a note that the two never add up | GSC Wizard |
I built the GSC Wizard shopping tools for people who want answers about their shop, not raw access to an API.
You add https://mcp.gscwizard.com/mcp as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT and sign in. There is no Google Cloud project to create, no token to mint and refresh, and no header to set. Google's guide covers Antigravity, the Claude CLI and cURL with a token and a project header, which suits developers more than the people who run a shop.
Ask which products Google won't show, and the listing status tool returns them ranked by Google's click potential, with the count that needs a change from you, the count waiting on Google and the most common issues, on the first call. Competitors come rolled up per domain, prices come with the gap to the benchmark, and best sellers come flagged when you don't stock them. The assistant does not have to write a query, page through raw rows and do the maths before it can answer.
Search Console's merchant listings and Merchant Center's free listings count different surfaces and never reconcile, and assistants love to add them together. The tools say so in every response. When Google withholds a report for your account, the tools say why instead of returning an empty table.
The feed audit fetches every product page and checks it against the feed, title hygiene finds duplicate and thin titles, and Search Console's merchant listings show how the same products do in web Search. Search Console, GA4, Bing and Yandex sit on the same connector, so one conversation can cover all of them.
Google labels its server an experimental alpha that can change without notice. GSC Wizard's shopping tools are generally available, with the same reports in a web app you can check the answers against.
Yes, two. The Merchant API MCP Access Service at merchantapi.googleapis.com/mcp reads live Merchant Center data and has been an experimental alpha since May 2026. Separately, a developer documentation MCP answers questions about the Merchant API documentation and code samples and reads no account data.
Google's setup guide documents Antigravity, the Claude CLI and cURL, each with an OAuth access token in the Authorization header and, for user credentials, a Google Cloud project in the X-Goog-User-Project header. It does not document a hosted sign-in connector for ChatGPT or claude.ai.
Yes. The GSC Wizard shopping tools read Merchant Center through the Merchant API with your consent, on the same content scope Google's MCP uses. The difference is what happens in between: GSC Wizard turns the reports into ranked, counted answers and adds data the Merchant API does not have, such as a feed audit that crawls your product pages and Search Console's merchant listings.
Yes. An MCP client can load several servers at once, so you can keep Google's for raw report queries and data source management and GSC Wizard's for analysis, Search Console data and the feed audit.
Everything said here about Google's server comes from Google's own developer documentation, read on 16 October 2026, not from third-party roundups. Facts about GSC Wizard come from its documentation and pricing. If Google's documentation changes, tell me through the feedback page and I will update this page.
Connect Merchant Center, add the connector to Claude or ChatGPT, and ask which products Google won't show. 7-day free trial, no credit card.
