Google Search Console Performance Report Explained

The Performance report is the primary report for understanding how your site performs in Google Search. Here is a breakdown of everything it offers:

The Four Metrics

  • Total clicks - The number of times users clicked through to your site from Google Search
  • Total impressions - How many times your pages appeared in search results (even if not clicked)
  • Average CTR - Clicks divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage
  • Average position - The mean ranking position across all queries and impressions

Dimensions & Filters

  • Queries - Which search terms drive traffic to your site
  • Pages - Which pages receive the most clicks and impressions
  • Countries - Where your traffic comes from geographically
  • Devices - Desktop vs. mobile vs. tablet breakdown
  • Search type - Web, Image, Video, News

Date Range

The Performance report stores up to 16 months of data. Use date comparison to spot trends over time.
