Verifying your website in Google Search Console proves you own or control the property. There are several methods available:
For URL Prefix Properties
- HTML tag - Copy the provided meta tag and paste it in the
<head>of your homepage - HTML file - Download a small HTML file and upload it to your site's root directory
- Google Analytics - Automatically verified if GA is installed on your site with the same Google account
- Google Tag Manager - Automatically verified if GTM is installed with the same account
- DNS TXT record - Add a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings
For Domain Properties
Only DNS TXT record verification is available for Domain properties. This covers all subdomains and protocols.
Important: Keep your verification method in place permanently. If the verification tag or file is removed, Search Console access will eventually be revoked.
