The best Google Search Console tools for freelancers and consultants in 2026
A freelance SEO has an awkward shape for software pricing: one person, many client sites, most of them owned by somebody else, and a tool budget that comes out of your own rate. The good news is that four of the six options here are free or have a free plan, and the paid ones worth having cost less than an hour of billable time a month.
Disclosure: we make one of the tools in this guide (GSC Wizard). For freelancers we have ranked it second of 6, and it gets the same "watch for" note as every other tool. Facts about other products come from each vendor's own website, checked October 3, 2026, and every source is linked at the bottom. Spot an error? Tell us.
On this page
SEO Gets. Unlimited client sites on a free plan, with decay tabs, a branded split and CSV exports of up to 50,000 rows.
GSC Wizard Starter. Five client properties with stored history plus ten live ones, with alerts and every report, for €17 a month.
Search Analytics for Sheets. Search Console data straight into Google Sheets, free for small pulls.
What freelancers actually need from a Search Console tool
You do not need what an agency needs. These are the things that matter when it is just you.
A cost you can absorb
Clients rarely pay for your tools. Anything priced per site gets expensive by the fifth client, so work out the price for the number of sites you actually handle.
It works with access someone else gave you
You are usually a delegated user on a client's Search Console property, not the owner. Tools that connect through your Google login work with that. Anything that needs owner permission, such as Google's BigQuery export or verifying a site in Ahrefs, does not.
A fast first audit
The first week with a new client is where you earn trust. Decaying pages, queries stuck on page two and two URLs competing for one query are the quick findings, and a tool that surfaces them in minutes pays for itself.
Something to show
A chart exported as an image, a CSV or a shared link is enough for most freelance work. A white-labelled portal is rarely worth the money for one person.
A record of what you did
Annotations on the date you changed something are your evidence at renewal time. Search Console's own annotations are deleted after 500 days, so check where yours are kept.

The 6 tools, in the order we would try them
Six tools, in the order we would try them as a freelancer. Four have a free plan.
1. SEO Gets
What it is. A clean, fast Search Console dashboard built for people who run many sites. The free plan covers unlimited sites and team members and includes the master dashboard, growth and decay tabs, branded versus non-branded tracking and Google core updates on charts. The paid Core plan adds GA4, content groups, topic clusters, opportunity reports, annotations that start an SEO test automatically, an MCP server and no-login client links. It reads Search Console live and shows Google's 16 months; longer history is a per-site add-on called Super Sites.
Why it fits freelancers. The free plan has no site limit, which suits someone whose client list changes every quarter. You connect your Google login and every property you have access to appears. The free plan includes growth and decay tabs, branded tracking and CSV exports of up to 50,000 rows, so you can look at a new client's site without paying anything.
Watch for. GA4, content groups, opportunity reports, annotations and client links are on Core at $59 a month, which is a big step for a freelancer. History is 16 months unless you add Super Sites.
Cost. Free plan. Core is $59 a month or $590 a year. Super Sites, which keep up to five years of history and add index reporting for up to 5,000 pages, cost $10 per site per month. Sites and team members are unlimited on every plan. SEO Gets pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
2. GSC Wizard
What it is. A Search Console, GA4, Bing, Yandex and Google Merchant Center analysis tool. It stores your Search Console history in its own warehouse (up to ten years on stored properties) and builds reports on top: content decay, cannibalization, CTR benchmarks, striking-distance queries, forecasting, anomaly detection and an indexing tracker. Traffic and indexing alerts go to Slack, Microsoft Teams or a webhook, and the same data is available to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP server, including the Yandex and Merchant Center data.
Why it fits freelancers. Starter covers ten live client properties plus five with stored history for €17 a month, and every report is included: decay, cannibalization, striking distance, forecasting and the index tracker. Traffic alerts for the stored properties go to Slack, Teams or a webhook, and indexing changes arrive as an email digest, so a problem on a client site reaches you first. It works with delegated Search Console access, and you can share a property with one client or colleague without sharing your Google login.
Watch for. There is no free plan for the web app, only a 7-day trial. Starter has one invited seat, and a sixteenth client means moving to Pro at €39. Exports are CSV, HTML and PNG; there is no PDF and no white-label.
Cost. 7-day free trial without a card, then Starter at €17 a month (10 live properties plus 5 with stored history, 15 in total, 1 invited seat), Pro at €39 (50 plus 25, 75 in total, 3 seats) and Business at €249 (500 plus 150, 650 in total, 10 seats). In US dollars that is $19, $49 and $299. Every feature is on every plan. There is no free plan for the web app and no annual discount. GSC Wizard pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
3. Search Analytics for Sheets
What it is. A Google Sheets add-on that pulls Search Console data straight into a spreadsheet, past the 1,000-row limit of the interface, and can run scheduled backups so your history outlives Google's 16 months.
Why it fits freelancers. Plenty of consultants do their best work in a spreadsheet. This add-on pulls Search Console data into Google Sheets with the dimensions and filters you choose, past the 1,000-row limit, and can schedule backups so a client's data outlives 16 months. The free plan is enough for small sites.
Watch for. It gives you rows, not findings: the analysis is yours to build. Large pulls need Pro at $19 a month, and a spreadsheet per client becomes hard to manage beyond a handful.
Cost. Free plan. Pro is $19 a month with up to 100,000 rows per request, and Unlimited is $49. Search Analytics for Sheets pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
4. Ahrefs Free
What it is. The free tier of Ahrefs, formerly called Ahrefs Webmaster Tools. For sites you verify, which takes Owner permission on the Search Console property or a DNS or HTML check, it gives limited access to Site Audit (5,000 crawl credits a month per project), Site Explorer (1,000 backlinks and keywords visible at once), Web Analytics and the GSC Insights reports.
Why it fits freelancers. For sites you can verify, the free tier gives you a site audit, limited backlink data and GSC Insights with stored history, at no cost. It is the cheapest way to get a crawl-based audit next to Search Console data.
Watch for. Each site has to be verified first, which takes Owner permission on the Search Console property or a DNS or HTML check, so it is not always possible on a client's property. The limits are tight (5,000 crawl credits a month per project), and competitor research needs a paid plan.
Cost. Free for verified site owners, with unlimited verified websites. Ahrefs Free. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
5. SEOTesting
What it is. One of the longest-running Search Console tools, launched in 2016 under the name SanityCheck. Its core is SEO testing: single-page, group and URL-switch tests measured before and after a change, split tests against a matched control group, and tests of AI-referred traffic using GA4. Around that sit the standard reports (content decay, cannibalization, striking distance, brand versus non-brand), content groups, annotations with Google updates added automatically, and a branded monthly PDF report.
Why it fits freelancers. When a client asks whether your title rewrite did anything, a test with a control group and a verdict is a better answer than a screenshot. One site is $50 a month, and the 14-day trial covers up to 30 sites.
Watch for. Per-site pricing makes it a tool for one flagship client, not for your whole list. It is not an archive: query-level data stays within 16 months.
Cost. $50 a month for one site, $125 for five and $375 for twenty, with unlimited users on every plan. Enterprise pricing is on request. 14-day trial without a card, with up to 30 sites. SEOTesting pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
6. Google Search Console
What it is. Google's own tool, and the source every other product on this page reads from. It has gained a lot recently: an hourly view of the last 24 hours, custom annotations on charts, a branded queries filter on sites with enough impressions, weekly and monthly chart views, query groups in the Insights report for larger sites and, since June 2026, a report on impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Why it fits freelancers. It is already there for every client, and it has improved: annotations, weekly and monthly views, the 24-hour view and, on sites with enough impressions, a branded queries filter. For a one-off question on a small site it is often the fastest tool.
Watch for. One property at a time, 1,000 rows and 16 months. For a consultant with eight clients, the lack of a combined view is the real cost.
Cost. Free. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
Also worth a look
GSCdaddy
A narrow tool that finds striking-distance keywords and writes an AI action plan for each. $19 a month for one site. A young product, launched in April 2026.
Data Studio
Free, and the usual answer when a client wants a dashboard of their own. Budget the time to build it.
SEOTalos
$29 a month for 10 sites and 2 seats, with SEO tests included. Its roadmap still lists stored history beyond 16 months as planned.
Which one to pick
Just starting out
SEO Gets Free and Search Console itself. Spend nothing until a client's needs force the question.
Five to ten steady clients
GSC Wizard Starter. Stored history and traffic alerts on five of them, live data on the rest, for €17.
One big client who wants proof
Add SEOTesting for that one site, and keep the rest where they are.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free Search Console tool for freelancers?
SEO Gets has a free plan with unlimited sites, which fits a changing client list. Search Analytics for Sheets has a free plan for pulling data into spreadsheets, and Ahrefs Free adds a site audit for sites you can verify. Search Console itself is free and has gained annotations and, on sites with enough impressions, a branded filter.
Can I use these tools with client sites I do not own?
Yes, for tools that connect through your Google login, such as GSC Wizard, SEO Gets and SEOTesting: they read any Search Console property your account has been given access to. Ahrefs Free and Google's BigQuery bulk export both need Owner permission on the property.
How much should a freelancer spend on a Search Console tool?
Often nothing at first. When stored history, alerts or faster audits start saving you time, €17 to $59 a month covers every option on this page except per-site tools used on several sites.
Do I keep client data when a contract ends?
The data belongs to the client's Search Console property, and your access ends when they remove you. What a tool stored while you had access depends on that tool's retention and on your agreement with the client, so settle it in the contract.
