The best Google Search Console tools for small businesses in 2026

If you run a small business with one website, you probably do not need to buy a Search Console tool, and that includes ours. Google's own tool is free and has become easier to use. This guide covers the free options first, explains the one thing none of them show a local business, and says plainly when a paid tool earns its keep.

Disclosure: we make one of the tools in this guide (GSC Wizard). For small businesses we have ranked it fifth of 5, and it gets the same "watch for" note as every other tool. Facts about other products come from each vendor's own website, checked October 3, 2026, and every source is linked at the bottom. Spot an error? Tell us.

Best for most small businesses

Search Console itself. Free, with an Insights report that summarises what is working.

Best on WordPress

Site Kit by Google. The same numbers inside your WordPress dashboard, free.

Worth paying for when

You run several sites or locations, or someone else manages your SEO and you want alerts and your own history. Then GSC Wizard, at €17 a month.

What small businesses actually need from a Search Console tool

Less than the tools want to sell you.

Is my site in Google at all

The first job is checking that your pages are indexed and nothing is broken. Search Console's page indexing report and URL inspection do this for free.

What people search before they find me

The list of queries shows whether customers find you by name or by what you sell. It often suggests a page you have not written yet.

A warning when something goes wrong

You will not log in every week. Something should email you if traffic collapses or pages drop out of Google.

No training course

If a tool needs an afternoon to learn, it will not get used. Simple beats complete.

The 5 tools, in the order we would try them

Five tools, free ones first. Ours is last, because for one small site it should be.

1. Google Search Console

What it is. Google's own tool, and the source every other product on this page reads from. It has gained a lot recently: an hourly view of the last 24 hours, custom annotations on charts, a branded queries filter on sites with enough impressions, weekly and monthly chart views, query groups in the Insights report for larger sites and, since June 2026, a report on impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Why it fits small businesses. It is free and it is the source. The Insights report gives a simple summary, the performance report shows your queries and pages, and URL inspection tells you whether a page is indexed.

Watch for. You have to look to notice a gradual fall in traffic, it keeps 16 months of data, and the interface assumes you know what the terms mean. Our Search Console FAQ explains the common ones.

Cost. Free. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

2. Site Kit by Google

What it is. Google's official WordPress plugin. It puts Search Console clicks, impressions and top queries inside the WordPress dashboard, next to Analytics and PageSpeed data, and shows per-page stats in the admin bar.

Why it fits small businesses. Google's free plugin puts clicks, impressions and top queries inside the WordPress dashboard, next to Analytics and PageSpeed data. For an owner who already logs in to WordPress, it removes a separate tool entirely.

Watch for. It shows the last 7 to 90 days and nothing older, and it does not explain what to do about the numbers.

Cost. Free. Site Kit. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

3. Bing Webmaster Tools

What it is. Microsoft's free equivalent of Search Console, with 16 months of search performance data, URL inspection, IndexNow, backlink data, keyword research and a site scan. Since February 2026 it also reports how often your pages are cited in Copilot and in Bing's AI answers.

Why it fits small businesses. Free, and worth setting up once. It shows how you appear in Bing and how often your pages are cited in Copilot's answers, and it includes a site scan and backlink data.

Watch for. Bing usually sends less traffic than Google, so treat it as a second opinion, not a priority.

Cost. Free. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

4. SEO Gets

What it is. A clean, fast Search Console dashboard built for people who run many sites. The free plan covers unlimited sites and team members and includes the master dashboard, growth and decay tabs, branded versus non-branded tracking and Google core updates on charts. The paid Core plan adds GA4, content groups, topic clusters, opportunity reports, annotations that start an SEO test automatically, an MCP server and no-login client links. It reads Search Console live and shows Google's 16 months; longer history is a per-site add-on called Super Sites.

Why it fits small businesses. If Search Console's interface puts you off, the SEO Gets free plan shows the same data in a cleaner layout, for as many sites as you have.

Watch for. It is built for SEO professionals, and the reports beyond the basics are on the $59 Core plan, which a small business rarely needs.

Cost. Free plan. Core is $59 a month or $590 a year. Super Sites, which keep up to five years of history and add index reporting for up to 5,000 pages, cost $10 per site per month. Sites and team members are unlimited on every plan. SEO Gets pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

5. GSC Wizard

What it is. A Search Console, GA4, Bing, Yandex and Google Merchant Center analysis tool. It stores your Search Console history in its own warehouse (up to ten years on stored properties) and builds reports on top: content decay, cannibalization, CTR benchmarks, striking-distance queries, forecasting, anomaly detection and an indexing tracker. Traffic and indexing alerts go to Slack, Microsoft Teams or a webhook, and the same data is available to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP server, including the Yandex and Merchant Center data.

Why it fits small businesses. It earns its price in three situations. You have several sites or locations and want them on one screen. You want a Slack or Teams message when traffic drops, or an email when a tracked page falls out of the index, without logging in. Or an agency or freelancer handles your SEO and you want your own view of the data, with history that outlasts the contract. See how local service businesses use it.

Watch for. For a single small site it is more tool than you need, and the web app has no free plan after the 7-day trial. Traffic alerts go to Slack, Teams or a webhook; only the indexing digest and the weekly Core Web Vitals mail come by email. Like every Search Console tool, it shows website search data only: it does not include your Google Business Profile or map rankings.

Cost. 7-day free trial without a card, then Starter at €17 a month (10 live properties plus 5 with stored history, 15 in total, 1 invited seat), Pro at €39 (50 plus 25, 75 in total, 3 seats) and Business at €249 (500 plus 150, 650 in total, 10 seats). In US dollars that is $19, $49 and $299. Every feature is on every plan. There is no free plan for the web app and no annual discount. GSC Wizard pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

What no Search Console tool shows a local business

For a business that serves a town or a region, a large part of search happens in the map results: the listings with a map that appear for searches like plumber near me. Those listings are Business Profiles, which you manage in Google Business Profile, not pages of your website. Calls, direction requests and profile views are reported in the Business Profile dashboard, and none of the tools on this page include them.

So before paying for anything here, make sure the Business Profile is claimed, complete and collecting reviews. For many local businesses that matters more than any tool on this page.

Which one to pick

One site, no SEO help

Search Console itself, plus Site Kit on WordPress and Bing Webmaster Tools. Total cost: nothing.

An agency does your SEO

Ask what they use, and ask for your own login. If they have no monitoring, GSC Wizard gives you alerts and your own history.

Several sites or locations

GSC Wizard Starter for one screen and alerts, or SEO Gets Free if you only want to look.

Frequently asked questions

Does a small business need a paid Search Console tool?

Usually not. Google Search Console is free and enough for one site. A paid tool helps when you manage several sites, want automatic alerts, or want history beyond 16 months.

Is Google Search Console free for businesses?

Yes. It is free for any site you can verify, with no paid tier. We explain what it includes in Is Google Search Console free?

Does Search Console show my Google Maps rankings?

No. Map listings are Business Profiles, managed in Google Business Profile, which has its own performance report. Search Console covers your website in Google's web results.

What is the easiest Search Console tool for a non-expert?

Search Console's own Insights report is the simplest starting point. On WordPress, Site Kit shows the key numbers in your dashboard. SEO Gets has a free plan with a cleaner layout.
