Hotel SEO

Automated SEO analysis and reporting for hotels

Someone searching your hotel by name has already decided. The only question is whether they book with you or through a platform taking fifteen to twenty-five percent. GSC Wizard makes branded search capture the headline metric and shows exactly where you are losing your own name.

Branded query tracking, direct booking intent and per-market reporting.

The most expensive keyword you own

A branded search you do not capture is a booking you pay commission on.

Generic 'hotels in {city}' terms are dominated by platforms with budgets you cannot match, and that is fine - those are not your battle. Your own name is. Every branded click that lands on an OTA listing instead of your booking engine costs you the commission on that stay, forever.

The problem

What hotel SEO reporting misses

Three things that hide inside a normal traffic report.

1

Branded and generic traffic get reported as one number

Total organic clicks conflate people who searched your hotel by name with people browsing a city. They have nothing in common: one converts at a very high rate and is defensible, the other barely converts and is not winnable. Averaged together, neither is manageable.

2

You lose your own name and nobody notices

OTA listings, review sites and aggregators all rank for your hotel name. Your average position on your own brand can drift from 1.0 to 2.4 over a year - a shift that is invisible in a clicks chart and directly proportional to commission paid.

3

Room and offer pages are never measured separately

The rooms, offers, weddings and restaurant pages serve different revenue lines with different seasonality. Reported as one site, a collapse in wedding enquiries or an events page falling out of the index passes completely unnoticed.

The setup

How to set it up

Brand first, because that is where the money leaks.

Step 1

Split branded from generic and make branded the headline

Branded query reporting separates searches for your hotel name and its variants from everything else, so brand capture becomes a tracked metric instead of an assumption.

Query reporting →

Step 2

Watch position on your own name like a hawk

Position tracking on branded terms shows when an OTA or review site starts pushing you down. A drift from 1.0 to 2.0 on your own brand is a commission event, and it should be a tracked alert.

Ranking changes →

Step 3

Group by revenue line

Content groups for rooms, offers, dining, events and weddings mean each revenue line gets its own trend, and a problem on the events page cannot hide behind healthy room traffic.

Content groups →

Step 4

Report per source market

Country breakdowns show where your guests search from. For hotels this drives language priorities and reveals which markets you are ranking in but never marketed to.

Country reporting →

The output

The direct booking report

Brand defence at the top, because that is what pays for itself.

HOTEL SEARCH REPORT - month to date

BRAND DEFENCE
  Branded impressions 41,200
  Branded clicks 28,900 CTR 70.1%
Avg position on own name 1.4 (was 1.1 in January)

BRANDED vs GENERIC
Branded 28,900 clicks converts to bookings
Generic city terms 6,110 clicks OTA-dominated, low capture

BY REVENUE LINE clicks avg pos
  Rooms / booking 18,400 2.1
  Offers / packages 4,220 3.8
  Restaurant 3,910 2.9
  Weddings / events 1,180 9.4 <- was 4.2 in March

SOURCE MARKETS DE 31%, UK 24%, NL 14%, FR 9%, other 22%
DE is the largest source market and has no German landing page.

The two findings here - brand position drift and a source market with no landing page - are both invisible in a total-clicks report and both worth real money.

What to watch

The metrics that protect direct bookings

Branded click capture

The share of impressions on your own hotel name that you actually convert into clicks. Every point you lose here is commission you pay someone else.

Position on your own brand

Should sit at 1.0. When it drifts, an OTA or review aggregator has moved above you, and it will not correct itself.

Revenue-line position

Rooms, offers, dining and events tracked separately. Each is a different P&L line and each fails independently.

Source market mix

Where searchers actually are. It regularly identifies a top-three market with no localised page - one of the cheapest wins available to a hotel.

Frequently asked questions

Why is branded search worth reporting on separately?

Because it is the traffic closest to a booking and the only search battle a single hotel reliably wins. Mixed into total organic clicks it becomes invisible, and so does any erosion of it. Branded query reporting splits it out on every chart.

Can I see if an OTA is outranking me for my own hotel name?

Search Console shows your own position on branded queries over time, so a drift away from 1.0 tells you that something has moved above you. Identifying exactly which competitor requires a SERP tracking tool, but the signal that you are losing brand ground is in your own data.

Is it worth chasing 'hotels in {city}' terms?

Usually not as your primary strategy. Those SERPs are dominated by platforms with enormous budgets. Brand capture, specific offer and event pages, and long-tail terms like a neighbourhood plus a facility are where an individual property realistically wins.

We are part of a small group. Can we compare properties?

Yes. Each hotel is its own property and the cross-site summary compares them on one screen. If you run many properties on one template, the franchise setup covers template-level testing across locations.
