The best Google Search Console tools for publishers in 2026
Publishers ask two different questions of Search Console. The newsroom asks what is happening right now. The audience team asks what happened to the archive over the last two years. No single tool is best at both. For the first, Google's own interface is ahead of every third-party tool on this page, ours included. For the second, you need something that stores the data.
Disclosure: we make one of the tools in this guide (GSC Wizard). For publishers we have ranked it third of 6, and it gets the same "watch for" note as every other tool. Facts about other products come from each vendor's own website, checked October 3, 2026, and every source is linked at the bottom. Spot an error? Tell us.
On this page
Search Console itself. The 24-hour view shows hourly data, and most third-party tools work on data that is two to three days old.
Google's BigQuery bulk export. No row limit, kept for as long as you want.
GSC Wizard. Content groups per desk, decay reports for evergreen articles, and history up to ten years.
What publishers actually need from a Search Console tool
A news site stresses these tools in ways a brochure site never does.
Fresh data
A story peaks within hours. Search Console's 24-hour view shows hourly data in the interface, and its API exposes hourly data for the last ten days. Most third-party tools work on daily data that settles two to three days late.
Discover and News, not only web search
For news publishers Discover can bring as much traffic as search, or more. Check that a tool can filter by search type, and remember that Discover has no query data at all.
Scale
A news site adds hundreds of URLs a day and matches a very long tail of queries. The 1,000-row interface and the 50,000-row daily API limit both bite. Only the BigQuery export is complete.
Sections, not URLs
Editors think in desks and formats: politics, sport, explainers, live blogs. Grouping URLs by path or pattern makes the data match how the newsroom is organised.
The archive
Evergreen pieces decay quietly while everyone watches today's stories. A decay report over a long window finds the articles worth updating.
AI surfaces
Since June 2026 Search Console reports impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page and country but without queries. It appeared in Google's interface first, so check whether any tool you buy has it yet.

The 6 tools, in the order we would try them
Six options. The first two are Google's own and cost nothing or close to it, so start there.
1. Google Search Console
What it is. Google's own tool, and the source every other product on this page reads from. It has gained a lot recently: an hourly view of the last 24 hours, custom annotations on charts, a branded queries filter on sites with enough impressions, weekly and monthly chart views, query groups in the Insights report for larger sites and, since June 2026, a report on impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Why it fits publishers. This is where today's data is. The 24-hour view gives hourly clicks and impressions, Discover and Google News have performance reports of their own, and the generative AI report shows impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. For a newsroom screen, this is the tool.
Watch for. It stops at 1,000 rows and 16 months and shows one property at a time. The AI report has no queries tab. There is nothing on decay beyond the Insights report's trending-down list, and no saved page groups, only a URL filter.
Cost. Free. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
2. Search Console bulk export to BigQuery
What it is. Google's own daily export of Search Console performance data into a BigQuery dataset that you control. It is not subject to the daily row limit, it keeps anonymized queries as flagged rows with the query text blank instead of dropping them, and the tables are kept forever by default. You query it with SQL or chart it in Data Studio.
Why it fits publishers. Large publishers lose part of their long tail to the row limits. The bulk export delivers every row each day and keeps it for as long as you want. If you have a data team, this is the foundation everything else should sit on.
Watch for. It is data, not a tool: someone has to write SQL and build the views. Nothing is backfilled before the day you enable it. Costs depend on volume, and a large news site produces a lot of rows.
Cost. No licence fee. You pay Google Cloud storage and query costs, which have a free usage level, and you need a Cloud project with billing enabled. Google's bulk export documentation. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
3. GSC Wizard
What it is. A Search Console, GA4, Bing, Yandex and Google Merchant Center analysis tool. It stores your Search Console history in its own warehouse (up to ten years on stored properties) and builds reports on top: content decay, cannibalization, CTR benchmarks, striking-distance queries, forecasting, anomaly detection and an indexing tracker. Traffic and indexing alerts go to Slack, Microsoft Teams or a webhook, and the same data is available to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP server, including the Yandex and Merchant Center data.
Why it fits publishers. Content groups let you report by desk or format, and the search type filter covers Discover and News as well as web search. The content decay report finds evergreen articles that are losing clicks, anomaly alerts in Slack or Teams flag unusual days, and stored properties keep history for up to ten years, so multi-year comparisons become possible as the data accumulates. More on the setup on our publishers page.
Watch for. There is no hourly data. Like most tools that read the Search Console API, it shows daily figures that settle two to three days late, so it is the wrong screen for a breaking story. Google's generative AI report is not available in GSC Wizard. The index tracker covers 1,800 URLs per property, a fraction of a news archive.
Cost. 7-day free trial without a card, then Starter at €17 a month (10 live properties plus 5 with stored history, 15 in total, 1 invited seat), Pro at €39 (50 plus 25, 75 in total, 3 seats) and Business at €249 (500 plus 150, 650 in total, 10 seats). In US dollars that is $19, $49 and $299. Every feature is on every plan. There is no free plan for the web app and no annual discount. GSC Wizard pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
4. SEO Gets
What it is. A clean, fast Search Console dashboard built for people who run many sites. The free plan covers unlimited sites and team members and includes the master dashboard, growth and decay tabs, branded versus non-branded tracking and Google core updates on charts. The paid Core plan adds GA4, content groups, topic clusters, opportunity reports, annotations that start an SEO test automatically, an MCP server and no-login client links. It reads Search Console live and shows Google's 16 months; longer history is a per-site add-on called Super Sites.
Why it fits publishers. It has a search type filter for Web, Discover, News, Image and Video. The free plan covers unlimited sites, which suits a group with many titles, and includes growth and decay tabs. Core at $59 a month adds content groups and GA4.
Watch for. It reads Search Console live through the API and shows Google's 16 months unless you pay $10 per site per month for Super Sites. Exports stop at 50,000 rows, which a large news site exceeds.
Cost. Free plan. Core is $59 a month or $590 a year. Super Sites, which keep up to five years of history and add index reporting for up to 5,000 pages, cost $10 per site per month. Sites and team members are unlimited on every plan. SEO Gets pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
5. Data Studio
What it is. Google's free dashboard builder, renamed back from Looker Studio in April 2026. Its native Search Console connector feeds any layout you can design, and partner connectors add other sources.
Why it fits publishers. Free, flexible and familiar to editors. The URL Impression table in the Search Console connector includes Discover and Google News, so you can build a traffic board per desk and blend in GA4.
Watch for. Site-level and page-level tables cannot be combined in one data source, history is 16 months, and the daily row limit truncates large sites. Someone has to maintain it.
Cost. Free for report creators and viewers. Data Studio Pro is $9 per user per project per month. Data Studio pricing. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.
6. Botify, Lumar and Conductor
What it is. Enterprise SEO platforms for sites with millions of pages. They combine their own crawl with Search Console data and, in varying depth, server log data. Botify, for example, says its RealKeywords feature imports your complete Search Console data daily.
Why it fits publishers. A publisher with millions of URLs has crawl budget and archive architecture problems that no Search Console tool solves. Botify, Lumar and Conductor combine crawl data with Search Console data, and in varying depth with server logs, to show which parts of the archive Google still visits.
Watch for. None of the three publishes prices, and Botify and Lumar are sold by demo or quote. They are more than a regional title needs.
Cost. None of the three publishes prices. Botify and Lumar are sold through a demo or a quote; Conductor lists its plans without prices and offers a three-week free trial. Price checked Oct 3, 2026.

Bing Webmaster Tools
Free, and its AI Performance report shows how often your pages are cited in Copilot and in Bing's AI answers.
JetOctopus
A crawler and log analyzer with Search Console data joined in, from $349 a month on annual billing. A self-serve alternative to an enterprise platform for a large archive.
Why third-party tools are a few days behind
Search Console data is not final when it first appears. Google marks the newest figures as preliminary, and they can still change. Most tools that read the API, GSC Wizard included, work mainly from daily figures that arrive two to three days late. That is the right trade for trend analysis and the wrong one for a breaking story.
The practical split: keep Search Console's own 24-hour view open on the news desk, and use a stored tool for anything that looks back more than a week.
Which one to pick
News desk
Search Console's 24-hour view, and a Data Studio board if you want it on a wall.
Audience and SEO team
GSC Wizard for sections, decay and long trends, or SEO Gets if a free dashboard is enough.
Data team at a large publisher
The BigQuery bulk export first. Add an enterprise crawler when the archive runs to millions of URLs.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Search Console tool for news publishers?
For live monitoring, Search Console's own 24-hour view, which shows hourly data. For complete data on a large site, Google's BigQuery bulk export. For section-level analysis, evergreen decay and multi-year trends, a tool that stores history, such as GSC Wizard.
Do Search Console tools show Google Discover data?
Some do. GSC Wizard and SEO Gets have a search type filter that includes Discover and News, and Data Studio's URL Impression table includes them. Discover has no query data in any tool, because Google does not report queries for it.
Can third-party tools show hourly Search Console data?
Search Console's API has exposed hourly data for the last ten days since April 2025, but most tools, GSC Wizard included, work on daily data that settles two to three days late. For hourly figures, use Search Console's 24-hour view.
How do publishers find articles that need updating?
With a content decay report: pages whose clicks have fallen over a long window. GSC Wizard, SEO Gets and SEOTesting all have one. It works best on evergreen content and needs more than a few weeks of history.
