Google Webmaster Tools vs Google Search Console

Google Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console are the same tool. Google rebranded Webmaster Tools to Search Console in May 2015 to better reflect that the tool is for all website owners - not just technical "webmasters."

Key changes since the rebrand:

  • The old Crawl Errors report became the Pages / Coverage report
  • The Search Analytics report was expanded and renamed the Performance report
  • New features added: URL Inspection tool, Core Web Vitals, Page Experience report, Rich Results report
  • The interface was redesigned in 2018 with a newer, cleaner look

If you see references to "Google Webmaster Tools" in older articles or documentation, they are referring to the same product. The URL search.google.com/search-console is the current home of the tool.
